Gas Fireplace Installation in Los Angeles, CA

Can a gas fireplace go into the firebox I already have?
Sometimes. It depends on what the firebox is and what the flue above it looks like. Vented gas logs drop into an open masonry fireplace, but the damper has to be clamped open permanently. Many 1920s–1950s boxes with clay tile liners accept logs fine. Unlined brick chimneys in pre-1930 bungalows and Spanish-style homes are a different story. So are abandoned or sealed-off flues in converted duplexes, which get rediscovered mid-job.
A sealed direct-vent insert is the other path. It brings its own vent and ignores the old flue entirely. That matters in shallow period fireboxes and Rumfords, where depth at the rear is tight. Measure the opening before you shop. Width at the back, height, depth. Those three numbers rule out half the catalog.
Two utilities, not one. Gas supply and a power source for the ignition module. Older houses often have neither at the hearth, and fishing a line through plaster and lath takes real time.
Factory-built metal fireboxes from 1970s–2000s tracts have their own limits. Only listed inserts go in them. Near the coast, pull the chase cover first. Rusted-through covers and caps are common, and that repair belongs before, not after.

What happens after you call
- 1
Call and tell us what the fireplace is doing, or not doing. We book a two-hour window and text you when the tech leaves, so you are not guessing all day.
- 2
The tech walks the firebox and roof first, then hands you a firm number before a brush comes out. The free estimate depends on flue type, cap or spark arrestor replacement, and creosote buildup.
- 3
We sweep, make the repair, run a draft test to confirm it pulls, then vacuum the hearth and take the drop cloths with us. You pay the quoted figure, and anything we find gets approved by you first.
