Gas Fireplace Pilot Light Repair in Los Angeles, CA

What a pilot light repair actually involves

Gas comes off at the shutoff first. The log set gets photographed, then lifted out. Grate position matters on retrofits, so we record it. Next the pilot assembly comes apart. We inspect the hood, the orifice, the igniter electrode, and the flame sensor. Most dead pilots are a blocked orifice or a tired thermocouple. Spider webbing inside a pilot tube is common in boxes that sit unused all summer.

Then we test rather than guess. Thermopile output is read at rest and again under load, with the main burner calling. A pilot that lights and drops usually points at the sensor or the valve magnet. An intermittent-pilot insert is different. Spark gap, ground path, and module get checked instead.

Los Angeles adds its own faults. Gas log conversions in old masonry boxes need the damper clamped open, and plenty here are not. Coastal direct-vent inserts corrode at the pilot assembly from salt air. Rarely used flues in pre-1930 bungalows collect nests and debris that spill back onto the burner.

Some repairs we decline. If a millivolt valve is obsolete and parts are gone, replacing a part makes no sense. We will tell you that before taking anything apart.

What happens after you call

  1. 1

Call and tell us what the fireplace is doing, or not doing. We book a two-hour window and text you when the tech leaves, so you are not guessing all day.

  2. 2

The tech walks the firebox and roof first, then hands you a firm number before a brush comes out. The free estimate depends on flue type, cap or spark arrestor replacement, and creosote buildup.

  3. 3

We sweep, make the repair, run a draft test to confirm it pulls, then vacuum the hearth and take the drop cloths with us. You pay the quoted figure, and anything we find gets approved by you first.
